Why do we offer scholarships to Passages Adventure Camp?
The answer is evident to all of the children and parents who've already participated in Passages: it is a life-changing and empowering experience we wish EVERY child could experience at least once their life. This may not be possible but that is not going to stop us from trying to fun-raise money for as many scholarships as we can possibly offer. All donations are gathered by The Friends of James River Park and tax-deductible.
Who is eligible?
City of Richmond and Greater Richmond Area residents with children between the ages of 5 and 14 who have demonstrated need according to the following formula: Household income divided by the number of children under the age of 18 = less than $15,000.
How does a Family apply for a scholarship?
Applications are available here. Please fill out the application and mail to the address. Please call Julie Appleby at 804-897-8283x310 or email her at Julie@PeakExperiences.com with any questions. You may also scan and email the application to Julie. A completed application will also include a 2022 or 2023 copy of a tax return and a short essay answer from the Parent and Camper.

A representative from Passages Adventure Camp will review all completed applications and all Scholarship Applicants will be notified of their status as soon as possible.
Why is it called the Wood Scholarship?
Christian Wood was a Passages Kayaking Staff Member for 4 years and a Camper since the age of 8. Although he left this world far too soon, he made a tremendous mark on our Campers, Our Staff and Our Community. Here's how he viewed his City, his River and his Adventure Community.
Notes:
Scholarships cover the entire fee for a week of Passages Adventure Day Camps.
An application must be filled-out for each child.
Scholarship winners are responsible for transportation to and from Camp each day.
